Det Con Iain Watkinson, the investigating officer, mentioned: “Cannabis factories continue to be appearing in rented households.
I would urge all landlords to carry out normal checks of their properties and for neighbours to consider tell-tale indicators such as blacked-out windows, humming noises from extractor followers, odd smells and bulk amounts of fertiliser arriving at the house.”
The crimes had been uncovered in October 2010, when police had been referred to as by a person in the public who noted suspicious activity at an address in Ray Mill Street West, Maidenhead. Officers attended and forced entry to the property, a three-bedroom terrace home.
Inside the house they found 443 cannabis plants expanding in all three bedrooms and also the bathroom. Every bedroom contained high-powered lighting and extractor followers, and also the electrical energy meter have been by-passed. A wardrobe about the landing contained bottles of fertiliser and expanding agents.
The only occupant current at the time, Van Hoang, was arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.
At Maidenhead police station, Van Hoang had his fingerprints taken. These were found to match fingerprints taken at an address in Canterbury Avenue, Slough, where a cannabis factory have been found in March 2010.
Cannabis was expanding by 50 percent rooms from the rented home in Canterbury Avenue. Officers found a total of 170 plants plus 11 root balls and 222 empty pots.
